DC Reflections

After seeing something hundreds of times, it can begin to have less meaning, taken for granted and sometimes completely overlooked. The beauty of the row houses, brick sidewalks, and government buildings in Washington, DC can get lost in the everyday shuffle. These objects and iconic buildings, when captured at distinct angles, allow these places to be seen from a new perspective and can give a renewed meaning when seen in a different light.

Water became a vehicle to see things differently so when the light is right, it can reflect back the building, sidewalk or object in a new way. Looking down to see what’s up, turning the reflection upside down, layered with the leaves, dirt or gravel from the street, asks the viewer to look again. To pause and question what they’re seeing. To focus more on the patterns, forms, and color. Sometimes even bringing a whole new meaning to these beautiful places.
